TOKYO Japan Today— Three Japanese drugmakers have begun voluntarily recalling heparin products as a "preventive measure" because the U.S. supplier of materials for the products is also the supplier of materials for products that have caused adverse effects in the United States, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry said Monday.
The U.S. supplier, Scientific Protein Laboratories, produced the materials that include ingredients imported from China and sold them to the three companies — Terumo Corp, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co and Fuso Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. The heparin products are used as blood thinners in operations and dialysis treatment.
